Professional car detailing operations rely heavily on their cleaning equipment to bring new life to the interiors of used vehicles destined for resale at a dealership. The most important piece of equipment for this application is the wet vacuum, which typically employs very hot water and detergent along with a strong vacuum.
One manufacturer of these wet vacs wanted to ensure that there is always sufficient hot water in the tank, while protecting the heating elements from damage if the water level dropped below a critical point. They had been using a float switch to monitor the water level and a separate temperature switch to sense the water temperature. These two sensors required separate assemblies, mounting holes and brackets.
In their place, Madison proposed the MT8000 combination device, a plastic float switch with a bimetal temperature sensor encapsulated in the stem. The temperature device was a creep-action switch that opened on rise at 88°C/190°F. The resulting assembly eliminated the need for two switch stems and mountings, resulting in material and labor savings for every machine manufactured.
