Continuous Level Sensors - Float Type

Madison's continuous level indicators are vertical mount sensors ideal for monitoring liquid height. These sensors provide tank level indication and control through the available resistive, current or voltage outputs. Connect the sensor output to a process meter to control pumps, valves, alarms or other devices. These magnet float and reed switch based sensors are rugged, reliable and available in a wide variety of configurations. They are available in various materials, mounting configurations, resolutions and output types. Standard models are customizable using our product configurator or contact Madison for your custom sensor needs.

Theory of operation:

A magnet-containing float travels the length of the sensing range and interacts with a reed switch/resistor network. The reed switch/resistor network consists of evenly distributed reed switches over the sensing length and corresponding resistors to achieve the desired output resolution. Reed switches magnetically actuate as the float moves with the liquid level. Apply DC power and connect the output signal to process meters, programmable controllers, microprocessors or other readout devices.

Madison offers sensors to meet a wide variety of applications or budgets.

High Accuracy: Model C4651 (1/4" resolution) sensor offers high-resolution for accurate liquid height measurement and control

General Purpose: Model C4652 (1/2" resolution) sensor offers accurate liquid height measurement and control for cost sensitive applications

Features

  • Flexibility for varied fluid environments
  • Suitable for any tank application
  • Provides precise, uninterrupted readout with 1/4" or 1/2" resolution
  • Various output signals available (4-20 mA, 1-5 DC, resistive)
  • Ideal for:
    • Remote sensing in tanks with restricted or limited access
    • Precise liquid level monitoring in a series of tanks in mixing operations
    • Central monitoring of liquid level in remote multiple tanks
    • Any tank application where the liquid level requires constant and accurate monitoring
    • Interface between two dissimilar liquids

interface-floatsAbout Interface Floats

For one customer, Madison's Continuous Level Transducers are custom-designed with a specially weighted float to "ride" on the interface between oil and water in an oil-water separator.

By 'weighting' the density / specific gravity of the float, Madison's engineers can provide a float that sinks through the lower density oil but remains buoyant in the higher density water, thereby monitoring the interface of the two dissimilar fluids. The weighted float principle remains one of the most direct, reliable and economical means of sensing liquid interfaces like chemical emulsions, slurries and other layered liquids.
