The M3850 is a small, low-cost stainless steel-polypropylene conductivity sensor probe designed for conductive liquids or water applications. When installed into a metal tank, the probe or probes act as single point level conductors between each probe tip and the surrounding tank. Multiple probes can also be installed in plastic tanks where a conductive path will be created from probe to probe. These probes can be easily connected to the Madison R2-120 or other controller for single point alarms, or as pump start-stop points for pump up / pump down applications.
While a conductivity probe and a float switch are both point level sensors, the advantage for a conductivity sensor is that there are no moving parts. The probe is mounted with an insulator shell designed with food-approved polypropylene for sensing any conductive liquids. The conductivity probes and R2 controller are completely safe, since only an extremely small amount of energy is necessary for the unit to sense conductive liquids. As with any Madison device, a properly installed and grounded system poses no electrical hazard. Since conductivity also varies widely among liquids, the R2 controller has adjustable sensitivity for different liquids to trigger only as required.
